Pumice from Lipari Island, Sicily, Italy
Pumice is a bit of an oddity. When you first pick it up you question how this can possibly be considered a rock - it weighs almost nothing for its size.
It is a rock - a 'foamy' rock, filled with air gaps and bubbles due to rapid cooling and a loss of pressure. This loss of pressure creates bubbles which are then sealed in as the material solidifies.
Pumice can be so light it floats on water. It is primarily used for skin care, for scraping excess skin and callouses off.
