Obsidian Ridge
Sandoval County, New Mexico, United States
There are numerous locales named ‘Obsidian Ridge’, and although we don’t have any specimens from the others currently, its worth getting ahead of it!

Obsidian Ridge is, simply, a volcanic ridge famed for its Obsidian occurences.
The site is sometimes difficult to access; the land around the area is prone to wildfires and the closest road was (maybe still is!) closed and blocked by fallen and burned pine trees.
Amongst the burned trees, visitors may find glittering black glass; natural Obsidian. Pieces from the site can be quite large – even here in the UK I’ve had specimens of 2kg+ from this locale, so there must be much bigger on site.
