Stoneham

Weld County, Colorado, USA

Stoneham refers to a small unincorporated community in Colorado; however, mineral wise we are most likely to be interested in a nearby locality known as the ‘Stoneham Barite Locality’ which produces fine blue barite/baryte.

The nearby locality produces some of the worlds finest blue baryte, and is known worldwide by collectors for its crystals, some of which have been up to six inches long!

Somewhat unusually, some pieces of the baryte from this location are facet quality – the Denver Museum of National History and the American Museum of Natural History both contain faceted specimens of blue barite.

It is likely that the locale will be expanded in future, and continue to produce fine specimens – although perhaps we will see nearby locales come into their own under new names.
