Vechec quarry

Vechec, Vranov nad Topľou District, Prešov Region, Slovakia

Andesite aggregate quarry owned by VSK Minerals, known for an interesting outcrop of columnar andesite (similar to the Giants Causeway).

The site is famous for the quartz polymorphs that can be found there, cristobalite and tridymite being the best known amongst mineral collectors.

Mindat does list 68 minerals from the site though, so it isn’t just those two!

The site is the type locality for Fluorapophyllite-(NH4).
