Assunção Mine

Aldeia Nova, Ferreira de Aves, Sátão, Viseu, Portugal

A beryl bearing granite pegmatite, formerly operated as a feldspar mine which also produces a range of mineral specimens.

Mindat lists 71 mineral specimens from the site, particularly including fine specimens of autunite and a wide range of excellent micro minerals. There are large crystals of beryl found, although they are not of a gem grade.

The beryl from the site can be several meters long. Fantastic large crystals of Quartz were found here too.

The mine now appears to be closed and flooded.

I’d highly recommend reading the article written on the museu coleção martins da pedra website linked below. It is in Portuguese but can be run through google translate.
