A historic mine, worked for lead and zinc. Mining in the area began as early as the Bronze age.

The site is probably best known amongst mineral collectors for unusual fluorite, but over thirty mineral species are found at the site according to Mindat.
The Dossena area is known for ancient mining from the Bronze age and Roman periods.
The site of Paglio Pignolino Mine is now a show cave and tourist museum, it seems.
