Diabase quarry
Biberg, Saalfelden, Zell am See District, Salzburg, Austria
Known to collectors for nice micro minerals, particular titanium minerals.
Mindat suggests that backfilling started in 2010, but the quarry does still exist to some extent as of 2024 on satellite imaging, although it does not look to be deep or extensive. It is likely the site is largely reclaimed.
Quality micro specimens of brookite, rutile, and sagenite were found here and often come up in older german specimen collections.
The site may also be known as
- Diabasbruch
- Biberg Quarry
- Steinbruch Biberg
It is worth noting there is actually another ‘Diabase Quarry’ in Tyrol, Austria, so bear that in mind while identifying the locale of less well labelled specimens.
