Basaltwerk Pauliberg

Pauliberg, Markt Sankt Martin, Oberpullendorf District, Burgenland, Austria

An active basalt quarry formerly beloved by micromount mineral collectors.

While the quarry is still active, collection has been prohibited since 2015.

The site produces nearly 80 mineral specimens, mostly micro specimens, of many of the species you’d expect to see in basalt. Minerals are primarily found in fissures of the basalt.

For micromounters especially, this was a good locale, and older German collections will likely still have some material from the site.

The German language name for this site is ‘Basaltwerk Pauliberg’, which is a good option as there are several other ‘Basalt Quarry’ locales in Austria.
