Preamimma Mine
Rural City of Murray Bridge, South Australia, Australia
A copper-gold mine worked between 1854 and around 1924.
There is a good history of the site available.
We know that the mine was opened in 1854 and produced a small amount of copper and gold but was abandoned shortly thereafter.
It was reopened in around 1861 when a boiler, steam engine, shaft, and chimney were added, but quickly closed again. It was reopened again in 1899 to mine arsenic for export.
It closed again sometime before 1924, as we know it was reopened again then. The shaft was, unfortunately, filled with arsenic contaminated water, and the mine closed again shortly afterwards.
Microminerals including lavendulan could still be found on dumps in the 1990s according to a report on Mindat – the lavendulan from the site is excellent, actually, and should be considered by any micromount collectors.
