Paratoo copper Mine

Paratoo, District Council of Peterborough, South Australia, Australia

A small abandoned copper mine, probably best known for a number of interesting rare earth minerals.

Mindat lists 42 minerals from the site, including three for which it is the type locality, including Alicewilsonite-(YLa), Decrespignyite-(Y), and Paratooite-(La).

Looking through the list on Mindat, you can see plenty of rare earth minerals – some people believe the mine may host many more.

There are several technical geoscience based writeups on the site which are linked below, and well worth a read if the site is of special interest to you.
