Ste Barbe vein

Montmins mining district, Échassières, Vichy, Allier, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France

Historic tungsten mine workings and dumps which are well known for secondary minerals, especially phosphates and arsenates.

Known as ‘Ste Barbe Vein’ or ‘Les Montmins’, but I’ve found these specimens are often labelled as ‘Montmins Mine’, which is a little confusing when the mining district is also called Montmins. Better to use ‘Ste Barbe Vein, Montmins Mining District’.

Mindat lists over a hundred minerals from the site, including many uncommon species. The site is very well regarded amongst micro mineral and systematic mineral collectors.

The site does also produce radioactive minerals.

I have no idea when the site was worked, unfortunately. It’s possible this information is out there, but only available online in French.
