Mooralla
Southern Grampians Shire, Victoria, Australia
Mooralla is a locale in Beear State Forest famous for quality smoky Quartz geodes and crystals.
Showing the single result
It is a designated gem collecting site but has been dug since the 1960s, so it is certainly possible the material is becoming more scarce.
The smoky Quartz from this locale is a very dark brown to black colour and typically very transparent and lustrous – gemmy might be a word you’d use.
Mindat lists five mineral species from the site, but most attention is paid to the smoky Quartz.
