Minerals from St Lucia

Saint Lucia is not known for large-scale mining or significant mineral specimen production.

The island is volcanic in origin, and most of the rocks are basaltic. As such, there is potential for zeolite-group minerals, calcite, and quartz in vesicles and cavities, though very little of this material appears on the collectors market.

I have only personally seen a single mineral specimen labelled as being from Saint Lucia. The locale mentioned did not have a mindat page. 🙂

There are geothermal features and hot springs in parts of the island, including the Soufrière area, but again, these are more of geological than specimen interest.

Older specimens, if any exist, may be broadly labelled as “West Indies” rather than “Saint Lucia.”
