La Cabaña

Berbes mining area, Ribadesella, Asturias, Spain

A cliff outcropping which produced fine specimens of fluorite and quartz.

No products were found matching your selection.

Boulders fallen from the cliff are collected from by local collectors, before the sea erodes the specimens.

Mindat lists seven minerals from the site including baryte, fluorite, pyrite, and quartz.

The quartz and the fluorite from the site are both of a good quality, with the quartz sometimes being ‘herkimer style’ dual terminated points and having a good level of clarity.

The Fluorite varies but is often colour zoned and can be a purple or violet in colour with excellent formation, unless it was damaged due to exposure. I have had some colourless specimens from the site though – your mileage may vary!
