Herbstein basalt quarry

Herbstein, Vogelsbergkreis, Giessen Region, Hesse, Germany

Small former basalt quarry worked for aggregates, sand, and soil.

The quarry itself appears to have been backfilled and is now being used as a processing plant, crusher, etc.

The minerals once found here were primarily the interesting sorts you expect to hear about in basalts – chabazite, erionite, levyne, offretite, natrolite, etc.

The site may also be known as:

  • Herbstein basalt quarry
  • Basaltwerk Herbstein
  • Basaltwerk Schrimpf
