Hechtsberg quarry

Hausach, Ortenaukreis, Freiburg Region, Baden-Württemberg, Germany

An aggregate quarry providing gneiss, which also produces some very rare mineral specimens. Better known in German as ‘Steinbruch am Hechtsberg’.

Showing the single result

The quarry mines around 200k tons of aggregates per year, and was probably originally created in around 1865.

The locations within the quarry with mineralisation are quite small but make up for that in some really quite uncommon minerals, as well as being the type locality for hechtsbergite.

The Clara-mineralien website linked below has a lot more information on this, including information about the dates each pocket of minerals was found.

Mindat and mineralienatlas links both have some good photos of the inside of the quarry.
