Friedrichssegen Mine

Friedrichssegen, Lahnstein, Rhein-Lahn-Kreis, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany

Friedrichssegen Mine is a former lead, silver and zinc ore mine closed in 1913.

Showing the single result

Friedrichssegen Mine was extremely prolific, producing over 180 mineral species, as the type locality for two species – hanauerite and lahnsteinite.

A range of fine specimens were found at the site, including azurite, brochantite, cerussite, native copper and silver, cuprite, dolomite, galena, gersdorffite, malachite, pyromorphite, ramsbeckite and sphalerite – and lots of other ore minerals, of course.

The mine appears to be sealed with a steel grate; whether access is permitted to collectors via mineral groups I’m afraid I don’t know – all of the specimens I have seen from this locale were from older collections.
