Filón Sur open pit

Tharsis Mines, Tharsis, Alosno, Huelva, Andalusia, Spain

Filón Sur mine is an abandoned gold, silver, and iron mine also known as Corta Filón Sur.

Showing the single result

Filón Sur was mined since ancient times, with evidence that the Tartessians and Romans mined precious metals in the area.

In more modern times, the mine was active between 1880 and 2002, before being abandoned in 2002. The mine is now partially flooded by wastewater.

The mine produced various mineral species, including beudantite, cerussite, goethite, and mimetite, but the most collectable from the locale in my opinion are the iridescent goethite specimens which have bright rainbow colours across the surface.
