Dämmelwald clay pit

Wiesloch, Rhein-Neckar-Kreis, Karlsruhe Region, Baden-Württemberg, Germany

Dämmelwald clay pit is an abandoned clay pit known for excellent selenite gypsum crystals with good fluorescence and sometimes phosphorescence.

Showing the single result

Mindat only lists two minerals from the site – gypsum (var. Selenite) and pyrite. Twinned and hourglass selenite crystals were reasonably common from the locale. Marine fossils and sharks teeth were also found.

From satellite views it seems there is still some industrial activity at the site but whether or not this is related to clay extraction I have no idea.
