Bönkhausen

Sundern, Hochsauerlandkreis, Arnsberg, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany

Bönkhausen is a small hamlet near the town of Sundern, which was part of a lead, silver, and iron ore mining region in the area.

Bönkhausens mining history is extensive and dates back to the year 1450.

Various slag piles and tailings piles around the site were picked over by mineral collectors in Germany, although some are now designated nature reserves.

Mineralienatlas has various photographs of the site as it was on the surface in 2010, as well as photographs of various minerals found on the site.

Mindat lists 48 mineral species found around the area, including baryte, cerussite, chenite, elyite, galena, goethite, malachite, quartz, sphalerite and wulfenite.
