Berg Aukas Mine

Grootfontein Constituency, Otjozondjupa Region, Namibia

Historic underground zinc mine, worked between 1920 and 1978.

The zinc-lead-vanadium deposit was originally discovered in 1913, but working began in 1920, according to the Consolidated Copper Corp history.

Mindat lists 37 mineral species occurring at the site, but by far the best known is the fine descloizite from the site. IMO, the Willemite is really rather nice too.

As of 2025 the Consolidated Copper Corp is looking to restart Berg Aukas, estimating a potential ten year lifespan.

There have also been some early hominid bones found at the site, which makes the area quite interesting in terms of human pre-history.
