Fossilstone marble dishes
Small dishes cut from a contrasting material often referred to as 'fossilstone marble'.
The marble is mined in the Anti-Atlas (or Lesser Atlas) mountains of Morocco and is quite a popular decorative choice for a few reasons.
It is relatively inexpensive, and it has an amazing contrast between the black matrix and the white to pearly grey inclusions, most of which are in the family Orthocerida.
People will often refer to the inclusions as "Orthoceras" but scientifically this is not strictly accurate.
Anyway....
Cute bowls, made of a contrasting fossil marble. They are approximately 125MM across and around 30-35MM in total depth, so they are quite small.
I wouldn't recommend eating from them, as the repeated washing may cause issues - and they are made of a reasonably soft material that can easily be scratched by steel - so bear that in mind if used as a needle dish or for keys etc.
I have a few hundred tumblestones in a much larger bowl of the same material at home. 🙂
