Diacalymene ouzregui trilobites from Tazoulait, Morocco
Diacalymene trilobite specimens from Morocco, a fairly common trilobite genus from the Devonian period. The genus diacalymene is a member of the order Phacopida, suborder Calymenina - sometimes written 'phacops' or 'calymene'.
Typically, the Moroccan specimens are Diacalymene ouzregui, from the Ktaoua Formation of Tazoulait, Morocco and are around 440 million years old.
It is common for these trilobites to be repaired, or sometimes composited from multiple trilobites and glued together. Repairs can usually be spotted fairly easily under an ultraviolet light as the glue typically glows. In some cases, better quality repairs may have the glue covered by a paste or dust of the original matrix rock, making them slightly harder to spot without experience.
The eyes in these pieces are rarely preserved.
