Chicago screws / binding bolts
Chicago screws are an interesting form of connector intended for holding two pieces of material together. They are typically used in leatherwork and in sheath making.
Never heard of them before? They do have a pretty wide range of names, including sex bolts, barrel bolts, binding barrels, post and screws, and connector bolts.
Essentially, they are a type of nut which sits inside the piece being fastened, and sits flush either side of the workpiece. They are often used for belts, bags, knife sheaths, etc.
They come in a range of materials, shapes, and sizes, but the most important thing to consider is generally the shaft width and length - to join two 2MM thick pieces of material you'll want a 4MM shaft length, or possibly slightly larger.
These bolts should always be used in combination with a glue or some type of thread locker to avoid them backing out, which over time they will do. They are closer to decorative than functional but if the threads are sealed they are much more functional.
We sell them in packets of five - this means 5 'nuts' and 5 'screws', enough to make five complete units.
Our current stock includes:
These measurements are done manually, and its likely that there are pieces with slight differences so please allow .5mm or so leeway.
