Bismuth Crystals
Alien looking Bismuth crystals - Bismuth is an iridescent metal which has been melted and cooled in a lab to produce these bizarre, alien structures.
Bismuth is a naturally occurring element; 83 on the periodic table. These pieces, however, are heated and formed in a lab - the temperature and speed at which they cool causes the unusual crystalline structure.
The shapes and colours produced do not seem 'natural', and make a truly gorgeous display item or gift. They are quite fragile, so if you're giving them to kids it may be worth pointing that out.
Each piece differs wildly in size, colours, patterns, and the unusual shapes - which typically have a reasonably distinct 'stair case' formation.
