Polished Paua Shell – Complete
Paua shells are found in only one country – New Zealand. They have been beloved by the Maori for thousands of years, and have become a well known part of New Zealand culture. Many crafters make necklaces and other jewellery from the shell, or use it as inlay on their woodwork.
These pieces are not roughly polished – they have been very finely polished and then sealed with a thin coat of resin, to give a very even surface. This has left them quite a lot thinner than the natural pieces you may be used to, but it does bring the colours out very nicely.
They make excellent decorative items, and can be placed in fish tanks, aquariums, etc – although, being a shell, they are quite brittle.
These gorgeously coloured shells measure around 130-150MM long on average.
